Sometimes a question comes up and I would like to find out how often a word or phrase is used. Someone on this list (note: this article is taken from the discussion list ielts-test) brought up the question about the word 'welcome'. Do we ever say 'welcomed'? Although I'd like to think that I know a good bit
about English and I am a native English speaker, I found myself unsure about this word and was wondering how frequently it was used.
So I asked Professor Google this question and he had an answer right away. Professor Google is real easy to find at www.google.com and all you have to do is type in the word or spelling or phrase you are wondering about in the box and in a blink of an eye Google will tell you how many times and how it is used.
For example, do we say 'welcomed'? I found 18,800 hits on that word. Here are some of the examples:
web site and your comments are welcomed by the Environment Education Officer

First Draft Comments are Welcomed: Globalization and Poverty

Public comments are welcomed

Next time you are wondering about a word or phrase, try Professor Google and see what he has to say.
