The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence
The finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle)
The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped)
Formaula:
[Thing receiving action(Object)] + [past participle of verb] + [by or to] + [Thing doing action(Subject)]
Examples:
The students (Object receiving action) + are taught (past participle of verb) + by + the professor (Subject doing action).
The dishes (Object receiving action) + are washed (past participle of verb) + by + John (Subject doing action).
